Emcee Genome Project
The Emcee Genome Project is an artistic exploration into the building blocks of Hip Hop. Much like the biological genome of every organism is made up of four chemical elements, the cultural genome of a hip hopper is made up of four elements, often called the four basic elements of hip hop. Emceeing, Deejaying, Breaking, and Graf Art. As hip hop evolves as a culture, different combinations of these elements have resulted in new manifestations of expression. Besides the B-boy/B-girl, the crowd rocker, the tagger, and the record cutter, we see the poet, the playwright, the professor, the producer, the activist, the author, the artist, the designer, the director; the possibilities are only limited by our imagination.
The Emcee Genome Project is dedicated to examining these roles and giving individuals a venue through which to display their work and play. It’s bigger than hip hop music.
